PaPa’s Wildcat Gravy

Hey Friends!

I am writing this on the plane from Salt Lake City to Chicago.  We just enjoyed a wonderful few days at the Young Living International Convention.  (btw, I have a bunch of new stuff that I can’t wait to share with you!  eek! ). :)

Tomorrow, we are getting together at my sister’s house to celebrate Father’s Day, so I thought I would share with you my dad’s recipe for “Wildcat Gravy” today.

Ever since I can remember, my dad has made his “famous” Wildcat Gravy.  He only makes it when we have a fish fry because it goes perfectly with fish.  We don’t have fish frys very often, so I am always giddy when we do because it means I get to have some Wildcat Gravy!

A few weeks ago, we had a fish fry at our house to celebrate Sania and Eli’s 11th birthdays.  Dad started making his Wildcat Gravy, and of course, I started filming in on my Instagram stories.

These are the ingredients he brought to my house with him…

  • Diced Tomatoes
  • Chopped Onions (Dad uses frozen)
  • Buttermilk Corn Meal Mix
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

If you watch the video of my instastories at the bottom of this post, my dad will take you step by step on how he makes it.

But basically, he cooks the onions in some oil (from the fish fry)…

Then he adds the tomatoes and lets them cook a bit.  And lastly, he adds the cornmeal.  No exact measurements…just a little bit of this and a little bit of that! :)

I did have a lady comment on my Insta-stories that my dad was just making “tomato gravy,” but oh noooooo, ma’am….it’s not just your ordinary tomato gravy.  My dad stirs in a lot of love and a pinch of Kentucky charm, and calling it “Wildcat Gravy” is SO much more fun!  ha! :)

My brother-in-law, Wayne, fried up a whole mess of fish and even made some fried hush puppies.  I made some slaw, you guys….it was so delicious together!

So the next time you make fish, be sure to give Papa’s Wildcat Gravy a try!  I know you’re gonna love it!
