Our Christmas Master Bedroom – Seasons of Home Tour

Hello friends!

I am so glad you are here today!  I am sharing my Christmas bedroom on the Seasons of Home Tour hosted by sweet Kristen from Ella Claire Inspired!  Many of my blog friends are sharing their beautiful Christmas bedrooms as well, so be sure to check them out at the bottom of this post.

Truthfully, I’ve rarely shared my master bedroom on my blog the past 7 years that I have lived in this house.  I haven’t spent a ton of energy decorating it, so it can be sort of a “catch all” room at times.  So I actually enjoyed cleaning this space up and getting rid of some junk before decorating it for Christmas!

We bought our ranch home in the spring of 2011, and that fall, we began adding an addition to the right side of our home.  We built a two story addition with the kids bedrooms upstairs, and our master bedroom and bath downstairs.  You can read about that HERE.

You wanna know something funny?  For about a year, we didn’t even have a door on our master bedroom!  ha!  But one time Cy parents came to stay with us, and they were going to stay in our bedroom.  I had found an old door that I wanted to restore and put up on our master bedroom, so Cy quickly hung it up to give them privacy.  He started chipping off the old paint because we were going to paint it white, but ran out of time and just left it the way it was.  And since we had to flip that old door to make it swing open the right way, Cy had to drill a new hole for the new door handle.  He took a small piece of wood to cover up the hole left by the old door knob so the kiddos wouldn’t peep in on Pop and Grammaw, (hee.hee.) and voila!  It’s stayed that way for 7 years!

I actually kind of love this door now and don’t have any plans on changing it.  :)

I hung a wreath on our door to add some Christmas spirit as you walk into our room.

Our master bedroom is the largest room in our home, and I love having the extra space in here.  We built it with 10 foot ceilings, instead of 8 foot like the rest of the house.

Every piece of furniture in this space, except the couch, was either free or thrifted.

My bed and bedside table on the left where both cherry pieces that used to be my mom’s.  I painted the four poster bed black, and the dresser white and added new knobs.

The bench that my sweet cat, Journey, is sitting on was given to my by Cy’s parents. Do y’all remember the story about Journey?  We found her as a kitten on the middle of the highway as we “journeyed”  to Nashville with Jonathan over a year ago.  She was TINY, and we actually thought her leg was broken because she was having trouble walking.  But it wasn’t broken, she was just so weak and malnourished, she could hardly walk.  We took her home and nursed her back to health, and she has been with us ever since!  And did I mention that I have hated cats my WHOLE life?  I’ve been nothing but a dog lover, but this little cat has stolen my heart.  She is the sweetest, most loving little animal I’ve ever known!  Truthfully, she acts more like a dog than a cat. :)

Anyway, I love my Journey-girl.  :)

Above my bed is a new sign I got online from a store called “Smallwood Homes.”  I thought it was perfect to go over our bed in our bedroom because it sums up EXACTLY how I feel about Cy.

“I choose you.  And I’ll choose you over and over and over.  Without pause, without a doubt, in a heartbeat.  I’ll keep choosing you.”

I added some faux greenery and a ribbon above it to make it feel a little more Christmas-ey.

To the left of our bed is my thrifted black dresser.  It was green when I bought it, and I painted it black.  On top of my dresser sits one of my most prized earthly possession.  My mom and dad’s very first Nativity.  They got it the first year they were married in 1964.

Mom LOVED getting out our nativity every year, and it was the first thing we put out every year at Christmas.

When mom got sick from cancer in 2009, we knew she only had a short amount of time left on earth.  She talked about the things she was going to leave my brother, sister, and I.  And she knew the ONLY thing I wanted was this nativity.  I will ALWAYS treasure it, and it helps me reflect on the true meaning of CHRISTmas.  Thank you, Mom.

One each bedside table, I just added a few tiny Christmas touches…

To the right of our bed is our “sitting area.”  We have a pullout couch bed in this area, and we use it for “family night” on Friday nights.  The kids love to sleep in our bedroom on Friday nights, and we love it too!

We put up a real tree in this room, and I LOVE the smell of the fresh pine!  Heavenly!!

This is the tree with all of our family ornaments, and hands-down, our family tree is ALWAYS my favorite tree!  The kids love getting out the ornaments that they have collected over the years, and I love seeing ornaments from my childhood on there as well.

I love the memories that come with these ornaments, like our wedding day…

And the sweet little fingers that crafted little treasures in Sunday school, like this one…

Or handmade foam ornaments with pictures of pure sweetness in them!  This little cutie just turned 15 last week!  Where does the time go?!!!

Christmas makes us reflective and nostalgic, and I think that’s what I love most about it.  It brings up those feelings of precious memories and moments in life that are almost palatable.  It makes us pause and remember all the things we have to be thankful for, and it draws us in to create more special memories with our loved ones for years to come.

I turned the lights off on the tree in these last two pictures, and I think our tree looks just as pretty with them.

Isn’t it funny how adding a tree to your room can make it feel super warm and cozy?  I love laying in bed at night and seeing the glow of our tree.  I treasure this season!

We have two trees in our house now…one in the den, and this one in our bedroom.

How many Christmas trees do you have in your house?  Do you have a favorite?

Now it is time to check out my friend’s beautiful Christmas bedrooms!  Just click on each link below to visit them and say “hi!”

  1. Beautiful Traci! I love the old door. We have one slender tree in our family room since it’s a rather small room, then we have a faux tree on the front porch. The inside tree represents our love for Jesus and wildlife. The outside tree is lightly decorated to coordinate with the lights we have on the house. We love Christmas so much that we had all of our decorating done before Halloween. Journey is so pretty! She is one lucky little kitty. God bless!

  2. Good morning. Your bedroom is beautiful! I think I told you this last year….but i have the same Nativity scene and it was my parents as well. I knew that when they both passed almost 13 years ago…that if I could only have one thing….it was going to be the Nativity. And every time I set it up, my heart is both full of sadness and happiness. My mother would not let us put baby Jesus in the manger until Christmas Eve…but I put him in as soon as I set it up. I save a little secret smile feeling like that naughty little daughter I could sometimes be! :)

Happy Holidays to you and your wonderful family.
