My Eye Makeup Tutorial

Well, the pigs must be flying, because I’m getting ready to share an eye makeup tutorial here on my blog!

You guys have NO IDEA how hard making this video was for me!  Let me explain why…

Have you ever been asked, “If there was ONE thing you could change about your physical appearance, what would it be?”

I have, and my answer has always been my eyes.

Not my hair, or my teeth, or my hips, or my height….but my eyes.

I have tiny eyes.  Like, I used to get teased when I was younger because they were so small.  When I smile, they get all squinty, and I am always so jealous of girls that have big, round eyes.   The kind that you don’t even have to wear eye makeup with, and you still look beautiful.

When I don’t have eye makeup on, I don’t even look like the same person.  I’ve had people see me without full eye makeup on, and they say, “Wow!  I didn’t even recognize you!  You don’t even look like the same person without makeup on!”

Of course, I do not take that as a compliment, because no one ever follows that statement with…“and you look so pretty!”  haha!

So basically, my eyes have always been an insecurity for me.

But this past year, I started wearing my eye makeup a little differently, and all of a sudden the NUMBER ONE question I get asked on my Instagram stories is “Can you do an eye makeup tutorial?”

WHAT?!!

Not, “Can you show me how to style a coffee table?” or  “What are the paint colors in your home.” or “What is your decorating style?”

Nope.

It’s, “Can you do an eye makeup tutorial?!”  A HUNDRED TIMES A DAY!!!!

Well, I certainly take that as a compliment, but I laugh because I feel like I have NO IDEA what I’m doing when it comes to makeup tutorials.  And truthfully, I don’t.  So watch this video at your own risk. haha!

And if you are a beauty blogger or know anything at all about how to apply makeup, I suggest you click away ASAP.  :)  This video is not for you.  This video is for those of you who no absolutely NOTHING about applying makeup. hahahahaha!

No, seriously, I am sharing this video because I LOVE MY TRIBE of ladies that follow me on Instagram.  I love them so much that I will even film myself without eye makeup on, even though it is one of my biggest insecurities.  That’s love, y’all.  :)

Below the video is a list of the products I use.  I thought that all of my brushes were from Sephora, but actually, only the blending brush was.  I bought it in a “airbrush” set that you can see linked below this video.  But I found some similar brushes to the other ones I used, like the angled brush, and I linked them below the video as well.

If you have any questions about any of the products I used,  just let me know in the comments!

  1. You looks so cute at the end of your video :)
I’ve small eyes, too and in my childhood I was called a chinese, too and now as an adult someone aked me if I would have eurasien anchestors, lol
I adore women who apply make up everyday . But truthfully that process takes too much time for me doing all these steps and of course it’s already not in our female heads that we only hide our true personality behind that tons of make up because we only feel the strength and the self confidence with it. We should know that no one looks that great without make up. Okay there a SOME women which are natural beauties like A. Jolie but it’s not the majority ;)
PS You don’t feel ashamed for how you look ‘naked’ in my mind you look natural and beautiful especially when you start smiling :))

  2. “no one ever follows that statement with…“and you look so pretty!” “….That’s because it goes without saying! You are beautiful with or without eye makeup! Thank you for sharing :)

  3. You looked beautiful at the beginning of the video without makeup, but you also looked beautiful at the end with the makeup!! Very well done video!! Hope you do some more! Blessings to you, sweet lady!!

  4. Just when I thought we couldn’t love you more, and you go and be all adorable again. Thanks for sharing!! I’m going to try and be more adventurous with my colors!!

  5. I never know what to do with the black shadow in the palettes! This was very helpful. You are a beauty for sure! Thank you :-).

  6. Traci! Well done! I switched up my eye game about two months ago as well. I’m enjoying trying new looks. Mine is sort of like yours just not as dark. I’m a make-up every day kind a gal to. I just don’t feel complete or ready to face the day! I love your hodgepodge of make-up. My drawer has a little of every brand to!

  7. Hi Traci: Great job! I really enjoyed watching your video. I get my ideas from others. I notice eye makeup on everyone so if I see someone’s eye makeup I like, I try to match it. That’s how I’ve come to do my eyes like I have now (which is somewhat similar to yours). I love the natural shades. Question: Do you think women over 55 & close to 60 (me) should use matte or can we use shimmer also? I’ve heard never use shimmer, but I love it. What say you? Thanks Traci. I love your blog!!!!!!!! & your sister’s!!!!!!!!

  8. Hi Traci just watched your video and found it very helpful. Great tips as I am not very good and wish I could do eye makeup like the professionals. Thanks for doing this.
I agree with everyone else I think you look beautiful with or without makeup.

  9. You’re so pretty, I never would have known you have small eyes. Mine are droopy and I have never been a good makeup artist so this was great for me. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Beautiful with and without makeup! Thanks for stepping out and making this video. I need to get that eye shadow primer! My eye makeup doesn’t stay on very long. Also, I use the True Match foundation too. Love the coverage! Thanks for sharing!!

  11. Thanks for sharing such a touchy subject. I think you’re beautiful either way because your heart is beautiful. I have small eyes too, which makes me not want to smile – my eyes disappear when I do, so I get it.
I’m going to get a sample of that primer bc even though I like mine I’m always open to try something that’s recommended and liked.
    Good job!

  12. I’ll finish the video in a minute, but had to stop to tell you not only are you recognizable without makeup, but just as beautiful with or without! I am not just saying this.

  13. Thank you! I don’t think I’ve ever commented. How will I know if you respond, email, hopefully? Have you tried the concealer cyndi recommends? I don’t spend much on my cosmetics but I considered her recommendation. However, what you use works great from what I can see. I think you are beautiful inside and out. I do my eyes very similarly but could improve if I can master some of your techniques.

  14. LOL I’m the flying pigs!! 🐖 Thank you for the tutorial. I never have really learned how to apply eye shadow. Eye shadow or not – You are so beautiful ❤️

  15. Traci, You look beautiful, as always! Your make-up is flawless and thank you for posting this tutorial. You are truly an inspiration! After hearing that you would like to make your eyes look larger, i am wondering if you have you ever tried using using a white eyeliner on your lower lid? It does give the illusion of a larger eye. Personally I thing you are beautiful just the way you are and I expect you have heard that before but I surly understand the insecurities of feeling like you wished one of your features was different!. Everybody’s got something! Have a wonderful day!

  16. I’m glad you did the video I alway like different ways to apply eyeshadow. I use the same foundation just in a different color. You were helpful in many ways.

  17. Traci – this so perfectly timely! I am going to a family wedding soon, and am feeling like I need to refresh my make-up system. I appreciate all your product recommendations, especially the NARS eye shadow box. Thank you so much!
