We Broke Ground on Four Gables!

EEK!! It’s happening, y’all!

We have officially broken ground on our new home Four Gables!🎉👏🏻

The weather has been PERFECT for the past week, so we have been able to get a great start on our foundation. I’m very familiar with remodeling the insides of homes, but I am not as knowledgeable about how a home is built from the ground up, so it has been fun to watch!

I took a picture of our driveway up to our hill where Four Gables will be built…It’s so much prettier when everything is green. 🥴

Last week, the excavator came and leveled out the land according to our home plans. We showed him where we wanted the home located, and he got to work! You can see the little black building on the left…that’s my “she shed” that we transported an hour from our previous home. It’s also where Luke is living for the time being. 😂

Before we knew it, ground had been broken and the land cleared. (Side note: Is there anything better than the smell of dirt? I seriously love it! Maybe it’s because when my four boys were growing up, they were always covered in it!😂)

During this same time, we also had new base gravel laid on our driveway up the hill. You can see in the picture below how we started adding the new rock at the base of the hill all the way up to our new home. This was a game changer! (Again…I can’t wait for everything to turn green!🙏🏼)

Now you can see the new gravel at the bottom of the picture below. I loved seeing how they cleared and leveled the land for the surveyors to come next.

The surveyors came one day, and in a few hours had specifically marked out the measurements of our foundation so it would be perfect. That was interesting to watch because they do everything by a GPS satellite to make sure it’s perfectly square. Those measurements had to be marked out before our footer guy could start digging.

The next day, the footer guy was able to use those marking to begin digging. In the photo below, I am standing at the back of our property looking toward the road. You can see a red brick home on the right which is across the street from our driveway, and you can see the tan home we are living in now on the left side of the picture. (Right above the guy in the orange shirt.)

It took them a couple of days to dig the footers and the holes for the pier columns. They also added rebar in the footers for when the concrete would be poured.

Today, as I am typing, the concrete guy is here pouring concrete in our footer!🎉🎉. It is seriously so fun to watch! I drive up there in our ATV multiple times a day to check it out. I’m sure they are like, “Oh boy…here she comes again!” 😂

Anyway, I will share another update next week when they start laying the block. 👏🏻👏🏻

For now, I wanted to share a reel on instagram of someone who has built our same Four Gables house plans. It is so cool to see it in real life and to ways people change it to make it their own. ❤️

Hope you have a great day, and I will be back soon with some more EXCITING family news!

xoxo,

Traci

  1. hey girl- This is so exciting!! Can’t wait to see how it all comes together! God is so good! Please pray for my husband’s job situation. He has been working remote for almost 4 years now. He just loves it to. But now there is a possibility he may have to drive in to work- (about an hour away) He can put in that he wants to continue to work remote but…. it has to be approved by HR. There is changes happening at this big company and he doesn’t like it. We would love to move back to Arkansas where we are from. Can you keep an eye open for any possible jobs in IT? We are both really praying about this and seeing where God will lead us. Thank You Traci for much! Love ya
