Three New Additions to My Garden!

Last year, we were finally able to build a fenced in garden on our property. It was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done! The garden has become my “happy place.” Even though I have no idea what I’m doing!!😂

I’ve been just figuring it out as I go…with google helping me. 😉

I was able to get 8 galvanized raised garden beds and a trellis built. But I knew I had room for more beds around the interior perimeter of my fence line. I just didn’t have the time or money to add them last year.

So that was a garden goal for this year! About a month ago, I enlisted help from my son, Adam, and his friend, Aaron, to build my wood garden beds. These were the first new addition to my garden!

(Can you believe Adam is getting married in less than TWO WEEKS!)

They built me some beds around each side of my garden. They are about two feet deep, and I plan to plant veggies in them, but I also want LOTS of flowers. I didn’t have hardly any flowers in my garden last year.

So this year, I definitely wanted to plant more flowers and now I have the space!👏🏻

Sania and I have already done a little planting, but we want to do more.

Did you notice something different in the picture above? The second addition to my garden this year is…I painted the fencing black!! And I love it! 😍It’s the same color as the She Shed and chicken coop…Valspar’s Ebony Fields. It’s a warm brown/black to me.

And guess what the third addition is….

Cy built me two new trellises for my garden for Mother’s Day! Those are for my tomatoes and cucumbers. (I’m gonna to share another new post soon about everything I am planting this year.)

Have you ever grown tomatoes or cucumbers on a trellis? I haven’t, but a lot of gardeners do, so I’m gonna give it a try!

Last night, I was adding my solar fairy lights to my two new trellises. I know I’m kind of crazy🤪, but I absolutely love how magical they make my garden feel!

In the picture below, you can see where the new wood garden beds stop on the sides of the garden. They do not go all the way around the back of the garden. I’m planning on planting some sweet potatoes in those beds, and also some wild flowers.

Those three additions to my garden has really made it even more special to me. I love to go up there multiple times a day to see what is growing, and just think and dream. It’s so peaceful. I am hoping to add a place to sit with a table and chairs in the coming weeks. I’ll share that with ya too!

I get asked on instagram for links to some of the things I have in my garden, so I posted them in my LTK shop for everyone!

Here are a few of my favorite things that I have in my garden, (including my favorite green bean seeds.)

  2. hey girl- ooh love the garden! Oh so cool- Those lights are amazing. Makes everything pop! Ya I can’t believe Adam is getting married next week- U better find a dress soon. I will be praying for you. Love ya!!

  3. You made me nervous this morning for you. I had to come back on to check to see if you found a dress for the wedding? I’m sure whatever you wear it will be as beautiful as you are. I love the picture you shared of Adam. They both look soooo happy. You are blessed. I have two girls and one boy and my boy is the youngest and when he got married, it was just different than the girls. It is amazing how they turn from boy to man and when they take a wife, you really notice it. Now he is a daddy to a 3 yr. old girl and a baby girl on the way, due June 4th. (He is 30 yrs. old) I’m so excited to have a newborn around again. All my grandkids are 5, 4, 3 and one to come. Enjoy this time. I LOVE your new additions to your garden. You are just so creative and can do anything. I LOVE the fairy lights. That is the most beautiful thing in the dark. Can’t wait to see your sitting area. I’d hang out there too. How long of a walk will it be from your new house? Way down the hill?

    1. Hi Kathy!
Yes, it’s definitely different with boys. Our relationships with them change when they take a wife, but it’s just the way it goes. I’m just so thankful he found a wonderful girl to marry! And I can’t wait to have grandchildren!! You are so blessed to have yours. :)
My garden is up the hill from our house now, but it’s right next to our new house build. So it will be a lot easier to go to the garden when we move up to the hill. Can’t wait!
P.S. Still didn’t find a dress today. eek.

  4. Oooo!! What a perfectly beautiful garden!! I forget how near/far it is from the she shed. You might want to build a little bin to keep your tools, stakes, twine, etc in.
I would plant some medicinal flowers!! Yarrow comes to mind. Mint is great but it spreads! Put it in a container by itself. Marigolds are supposed to be a bug deterrent. My folks always have marigolds in their garden. Keep a hoe out there for the just in case if you see a snake. 🤮 😂🤣
Congrats on the upcoming wedding. Can’t wait to hear a dress story.
    Blessings to y’all.

    1. Thanks for the tips, Penny! Yes, I am trying to figure out where to put all my gardening gear. I may build a little something for inside the garden. :)

  5. I love your new garden and the new additions – black fence and lighted trellises!! You are a regular farm girl!! Good luck with a dress for Adam’s wedding! My daughter just got married and I got mine at our church garage sale – Ha!! It was perfect!!

  6. I LOVE the trellis with the lights!! We are doing some raised beds and going to try the trellis
idea. Do you think its ok having the lights with the tomatoes? Your garden is beautiful!
Wish you all the best at your sons wedding!

    1. Thanks, Amy! Yes, I am adding the lights to my tomato trellises this year! They didn’t seem to bother my green beans at all, so I’m giving them a try!

  7. I love how the garden is turning out. The trellis with the fairy lights is beautiful. It was a perfect addition to the garden. You need a bistro table and two chairs out there for a romantic evening. It’s so pretty!
