Gold Hardware for my Garden Gate
Hey friends!
I wanted to share with you an easy, but beautiful update I made to my garden entrance gate!
We built the garden gate and fencing last year, and this year we painted everything Valspar’s “Ebony Fields.” We used silver gate hardware from Lowe’s when we built it, but I wanted the hardware to be gold to match the coop and she shed on our property.

Knowing that I didn’t want the hardware to stay silver, I just painted over it when we painted the fence. I was hoping to replace the hardware with gold hardware. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find gold hardware, and if I did…it was a shiny, brassy gold. No bueno. 🥴
So I decided to just use Rub n’ Buff in “Gold Leaf” and apply it to my hardware with a small craft brush.

I instantly loved it! ❤️🎉
Now I have NO idea how long the rub n’ buff will last, but so far, it’s been over two months, and it still looks great!

I’ve heard some people will spray a shellac over the rub n’ buff when using it outdoors, but I haven’t done that yet. Right now, I am fine with just touching it up when it needs it, and I honestly think I won’t have to again until Spring. It will take me five minutes and will look as good as new!
You may have noticed that I also gave my barrel planters an upgrade. 😍. I’ve had those for almost a decade, and they started looking pretty sad. So I washed them off, applied a new coat of Minwax stain in Special Walnut , and used some leftover black door paint I had in storage to refresh the metal bands.

I love how pretty they turned out!

It was so easy, I was kicking myself for not doing it sooner! 🤦🏻♀️
I made a reel of the garden entrance transformation and wanted to share it here with you too…
Let me know what you think in the comments! Have any of you ever used rub n’ buff on outdoor items?
Thanks for stopping by!
xoxo, Traci

LOVE the gold hardware!! Perfect change!
Love your garden and all the updates and improvements! Trying to do the same with my deck……cleaning, staining, repairing. Always something to do! But such is life. Thankful for it.
Absolutely LOVE it!!! My little garden is my happy place too. Your twinkle lights were just the cutest and this is beautiful.
Such great updates. I need you at my house. If I only had 1/4 of the talent you have. Neat you are helping Cy on the siding. Looking good.
That’s my dream garden!
Love it
Looks like a magazine picture! Beautiful space.
