Four Gables House Update {Front Doors & More Siding!}

I have another fun update on our Four Gables house! Today, I want to show you an update on the siding and the front doors we got from Facebook marketplace. {We are sooooo close to painting the exterior!}

In my last post, I share how we were working on the siding on the first floor of the house.

Cy has done most of the first floor by himself, although the boys came out one weekend and helped. This process has been a slow one, but Cy has done as much as he could do while working full-time in his remodeling job.

He started installing the siding up to the windows on the second floor, but decided to hire the rest of it out. So we’ve had a couple guys come out to finish installing the siding on the gables.

As of today, we have three of the four gables fully covered in siding. We still have the back gable to do, but we are waiting on some windows to arrive.

This is the front porch and the left side of the house…

The three smaller windows on the bottom is where my kitchen sink will be. 😍

This view from our backyard shows the other side of the house where our master bedroom will be.

We’ve created a little fire pit area where we love to hang out a lot, especially since the weather has gotten cooler. {I found these Adirondack chairs on Amazon HERE.}

The rest of the siding should be finished this weekend, and our goal is to paint next weekend, if the weather cooperates. 🤞🏼

I also wanted to share the 8 foot, solid wood doors that we found on Facebook marketplace! They are a darker stain than I would have chosen, but I think I’m gonna keep it. I had considered sanding it all down and re-staining them a lighter color, but I decided to keep them as is.

Cy had to custom build a door frame to fit the doors, and he had to change the position of the handles. We decided to flip the door around because the exterior side had some damage. But the interior side was fine, so we made it the exterior side! Then we will fix the damaged side and paint it for the foyer area. Does that make sense?🤪

I will either buy new hardware for the door or use some gold rub n’ buff on the current hardware. We will also fix the scratches on the front and put a new coat of polyurethane on to seal it.

They’re not perfect, but for only $600, who can complain?! I think they will look gorgeous when we are finished, and we will call the little imperfections “character.” ❤️

Here is the most recent photo of the front exterior. I’m so excited to see it all coming together!

We will paint and seal the concrete foundation and block piers for now, but eventually we will back-fill that area with dirt, and you won’t see as much of it.

We will be picking out a white exterior paint color in the next week, so I’m going to put together a post of some of my favorites to share with y’all. I’m leaning toward more of a warmer white, so if you have any suggestions, let me know!

xoxo, Traci

    1. Love how Four Gables is looking. I think the doors will look awesome with the house color and they are so pretty! You can really see the wood grain in them. Yes I agree on a warm white for the exterior.

      Blessings,

  1. It has been so exciting watching this beautiful house being built by loving hands! I know you are itching to get inside and begin decorating.

  2. Loving your place. Blessings to you all as you finish the outside and move to inside. Thank you for sharing.

  3. Yay for hiring out the rest of siding installation! Sometimes you just gotta get things done, and winter will be here soon! The house looks beautiful!

    1. Yes, we do most of the work ourselves to save money, but sometimes it’s worth paying someone else to do it. You can’t put a price tag on sanity. haha!

  4. I am so excited for y’all! Your whole property is beautiful. It’s fun to watch the process, I know it will be beautiful when you finish and decorate and landscape. (Like everything y’all do). My go to white paint color is Alabaster by Sherwin Williams. I have used it for years .

  5. I know this color sounds crazy, but check out classic gray from Ben Moore. We painted our house that color after months and months of sampling.🤪 I wanted warm but no yellow undertones and it is just perfect. It is also the closest color to white anderson windows ( not sure what yours are) which gives the home this really custom look. I will send you a picture of our home if you want. Good luck!

  6. Take a look at gossamer veil by Sherwin Williams. It’s not a “blow out your retinas” bright white, but has the effect of white when used with a contrasting color. We paired it with gauntlet gray for the trim. We live in a neighborhood with a lot of large live oaks and the colors blend nicely with the landscape.
    Everything is looking great and I admire the work ethic you and Cy are teaching by example to your family, who in their own rights have become successful adults. Well done!

  7. Looks great. Love the front doors and I’m sure with your talent you’ll make them look brand new. With prices today you all did good. 😊

  8. It’s all looking soooo good! I love the front doors too. What a great deal you all got on those!
    Looking at your columns, I immediately thought about the brick pavers y’all used on the front porch of your last house. They were so pretty! Would those work to face the columns with? They would add that southern, historical look.
    I didn’t know if painting the concrete would make it harder to adhere brick to later.
    Can’t wait to see the finished exterior. I’ve always loved each of your homes.❤️

    1. Hi Tori! Yes, I still love those pavers! We have a few left over from our last house that we are going to use in a little space in the pond house. I think I want to use a gray paver stone on our foundation eventually? I’m still thinking….but I’ll ask Cy if they will be hard to adhere if we paint first. Thanks for the input! xoxo Traci

  9. Love the house update Traci! It’s been so much fun following along and I can’t wait to see what you do with the inside :)

  10. Love your house. Good you are getting things buttoned up before Winter. Always hard to plan when building.
    I decorate for Christmas right before Thanksgiving if I’m not hosting and after if I host Thanksgiving. This year I’m not hosting so I want to get Christmas up early to enjoy it. The months are flying by. I’ve already started Christmas shopping. Think of it this way…. The less you put up the less you have to take down Jan. 1 st lol You’ll have two extras this year for Christmas. 😌
