I could live in this laundry room, couldn’t you?!😂 This laundry room makeover is one that my husband did for one of his clients. The homeowner (@kelleywms @notexactlyafarmhouse) had a large laundry room, but it needed an update. Kelley is a great decorator, and I love the choices she made in this space. The black and white floor tiles look great with the new cabinets painted Accessible Beige by @sherwinwilliams. And the black and gold hammered globe light is perfect in this space! Mom and I talked about this recipe a few weeks bef

Mom and I talked about this recipe a few weeks before she passed away (2009.) She said that one time she made some of these and took them to work. (She was a secretary at a church.) And when a needy person would come to the church for help, she would give them a loaf of poppy seed bread to take home with them.
She thought is was such a simple way to show someone you loved them.
Now, when Mom would make these, she would remove them from the pan, wrap them in plastic wrap, and tie them up with jute string.

She would usually attach something cute to it, like a tag with a scripture on it that she had made on her computer, or a small type of flower or leaf. She was great at “embellishing” a gift.

I think the thing I remember most about my mom is how much she was always doing for others. ❤️. It was her “recipe for living.”

RECIPE FOR LIVING:
I shall pass this way but once.
Any good thing that I can do,
Any kindness I can show,
Let me do it now.
Let me not defer it or neglect it.
For I shall not pass this way again.

(This is a poem that Mom kept on our refrigerator when I was growing up. She also cross-stitched it and hung it on the wall in a frame. I memorized it as a child, not knowing fully what it meant. But I do now! We only get one life on this earth…let’s make the most of each moment!)

Thank you, Mom, for always teaching me (and showing me) it is better to give than to receive.

POPPY SEED BREAD:
3 cups flour
1 1/2 t. baking powder
1 1/2 t. salt
2 1/4 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups oil
1 1/2 T. poppy seeds
2 t. butter flavoring
2 t. vanilla
Mix together the above ingredients and beat for two minutes.
Fill 5 or 6 mini-loaf pans 2/3 to 3/4 full. (Or I sometimes do 3 larger load pans.)
Bake at 350 for one hour.

ORANGE GLAZE:
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup orange juice
1 1/2 t. vanilla
1/2 t. butter flavoring
Mix in a glass measuring cup. Pour over hot bread when removed from the oven. Let stand for 30 minutes.

I’m not the best at making or keeping New Year’s resolutions, but I can certainly make declarations! I can confidently declare that Jesus is walking with me into 2023! And truthfully, that’s all I need to know!

Our Christmas Tablescape!🎄
Last week, I got to participate in a women’s Christmas event with my Bible study group. It’s one of those events where all the ladies decorate the table that they sit at. Our Bible study group had two tables to decorate. We decided to do one called “In the Beginning“ and one called “In the End“.
Since Revelation is my favorite book right now, I was excited when my Bible study leader asked me to head up the decorating for the “In the End” table. 👏🏼
In Revelation, it starts with the tribulation and talks about the seven seals on the scroll that are broken, the seven trumpets, and seven bowls of wrath poured out. So to represent that, we used 7 golden trumpet candlesticks, 7 golden bowls (we mostly got from Goodwill and used rub n buff on them 😂) and a scroll. Revelation also talks about when Jesus comes back to get His bride, the body of believers, for the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. So we added some wedding elements to our tablescape like the wedding invitation, diamond ring napkins rings, and veils on the backs of the chairs. It was so fun to create this tablescape with the sweet ladies in my Bible study!! It was a wonderful night to remember our Savior who came to earth as a baby, and who will one day (soon) come again as our Bridegroom!🙌🏼
