Our Painted Front Porch

Well, if you know me, you know I love painted wood!  We painted the floors in our girl’s room.

We painted the wood walls in our guest bathroom.

And we painted the wood floor in our new mudroom.

So when we installed our new wood front porch floor, I thought about staining it for a brief second, but I kind of knew already that my heart was set on painting it. :)

Our first coat was actually the same color as the mudroom (which I love,) but I knew that I wanted it to be a little darker gray.  When the sun hit the porch, the gray almost looked blue.

So I decided to go with a color that was a couple shades lighter than the color we painted our shutters (Ebony Fields.)  See below…

Since I am far from home right now, I didn’t have the color swatch with me, but I found a picture on Jenna Sue’s blog!  Yay!

Valspar Porch and Floor paint

It is called Mark Twain House Ombra Gray, and I absolutely LOVE it!  We used Valspar Porch and Floor Paint in gloss.

We trimmed everything out with just a high gloss exterior white paint.

I still have to get a pretty “welcome” rug for the front door, but I already love how it looks with our pumpkin and mum!  :)

Have a blessed day, friends!!

  1. I love it! as always… but where is the fall crate you made last year? I loved it so much I couldn’t wait for it to be fall again. You have such good taste, I can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

    XO Deb

    1. Aw, Deb! What a great memory! I haven’t gotten my fall decor out yet because I am out in California until the middle of October. :( It’s killing me to miss my favorite season in Kentucky. My crate is in our guest house and I will probably get it out when I get back home. :)
      Have a blessed weekend!!

  2. Lowe’s girl for life. That’s you, for sure! They should be thankful to have someone like you as a brand ambassador!

Your front porch is looking so, so good. I’m proud for you and can’t wait to see it all finished.

God bless you as you’re far from home. Hope Cy is all better and you’re doing well in sunny CA!

    1. Thank you, Richella! :) Cy is doing much better now but still is on his medicine. We are thankful that we caught it in time. Love you girl!!

  3. I love your color choice for the shutters and porch. It reminds me of the farmhouse near my hometown.
My husband is handy like Cy and does a lot of our remodeling. I like to see your ideas. You are the first blogger I ever followed.

  4. LOVE the colors that you chose! We need to re-paint our back porch and I am learning towards gray….your porch may be the perfect color! :)

  5. Hi!
I was wondering where you got your front doors from? Love them! Also, you did a fantastic job painting the front porch. I would have never thought of that!

  6. Could you please tell me where you bought your exterior stained French front door? Also could you tell me the color of the stained used and what type of privacy glass was used thankyou

  7. Hi! I love your outside lanterns. When did you get them? I would love to get something like this for my front porch. Thank you!!!

  8. Looks great! How has the high gloss held up? How about dirt? Does it get everyday wear or occasional use?

  9. Hello,

would you mind sharing where you found your front doors and the stain/brand color used? I love them!!!

    1. We bought them at a local place called Elite Building Products in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Ask to speak to Rob Blakeman. We stained our doors with MinWax, Dark Walnut.

  10. Hello! I noticed you said you painted your “new” front porch floor – we are installing a new wrap-around porch, and our contractor is telling us that the wood needs to sit for 6+ months before we can paint it. Have you had any issues with painting yours right away? i really don’t want a raw treated lumber porch for the next 6-12 months…

    1. Hi Jennifer! We didn’t paint our porch right away. We did let it sit a little bit, but I’m not sure how long. It may have been pressure treated wood? But it is good to let it sit in the elements for a while before painting it.
