Beneath My Heart

Passionate about Poinsettias

MAKEOVERS· Uncategorized

14 Dec

This year I am in love with poinsettias!

Last year, I did a post called Crazy about Cranberries, because I love to decorate with cranberries too.  If you missed it, click on the picture for lots of inspirational decorating ideas.

But this year, it’s poinsettias for me!

One reason I just love them so much is because they are red.  If you have been reading my blog for any time at all, you will know I love red.

Red makes me happy.

And Christmas is not Christmas without a lot of RED in my home!

My husband bought me a beautiful, big poinsettia for 99 cents at Lowe’s on Black Friday.

It sat on our kitchen table for a couple of weeks, until I decided to decorate with it differently.

Mainly, because I saw this picture in Country Living Magazine…

See the individual poinsettias in little glass bottles?

I knew I wanted to try this!

The boys didn’t have school on Monday because of snow, but that didn’t stop me from getting to Goodwill! :)

We actually went to a matinee, and when it was over, the boys asked me if we could go to GW.  Love them!  Of course, I gave in.  :)

I was going to start looking for little clear glass bottles so I could make a vignette like the picture above.

You would not believe my surprise when I walked over to the shelves at GW and saw three little glass bottles sitting together.  They were absolutely perfect!!! And only 50 cents a piece.  I scooped them up, and I might have yelled, “woohoo” out loud…maybe….

I loved that they were all different shapes and sizes!

I also got this little bottle for a dollar too.

When I got home, I cut branches off of my beautiful poinsettia, and place them in the water-filled bottles.

Love.

I sat them on a mirror tray on my buffet and added a little faux snow for fun.
The fresh greenery I bought at Krogers for 5 bucks.  I used some of it on my fireplace mantle too (that I will show you soon.)  :)
I was going to add chalkboard labels to the bottles, but changed my mind…at least for now…
Aren’t they fun and festive?!
I love seeing them in my kitchen everyday.
I thought about having a Poinsettia Linky Party on Friday to see other great ideas around blogland of how to use poinsettias in your Christmas decor.
Would anyone come?
Let me know in the comments, and I will plan it!
Have a blessed day!

SO simple and pretty Traci! I wish we could have a poinsettia plant — they aren’t good for cats, and ours would be eating one thisfast. Drats. Faux it is. :)

Those bottles are perfect, especially for the price. I love your poinsettia display. I only have one poinsetta and it’s fake, but I love how it looks. Kind of like a poinsetta tree.

    Traci,
I love red this time of year. It’s so festive and vibrant.
I bought a pinkish poinsettia this week-end and then out from the basement came an artificial one. Funny thing is the fake one looks more real than the real one does….ha.

Going over to your cranberry post and gather some ideas.

May you have a sweet Christmas.

I love this and I am definitely stealing this from you! I have a big poinsettia that won’t miss a few branches.

I love pointsettias too and this year I wanted a white one. It’s not as colorful as the red but still very pretty. I did a post about my poinsettia love with lots of pix of interesting varieties,….like pink, stripes, even orange. It’s just not Christmas with out a poinsettia. I love what you did with yours!

Well, I don’t have any poinsettias, but now I want to go get one! Aldi had some yesterday but I didn’t see how much they were. And if you did a little “woohoo” in GW, don’t worry, you’re not alone. I’m sure I’ve done that a couple of times, too. =)

And girl, don’t buy fresh greenery. Go to Lowe’s where they sell the Christmas trees and get it for free! As much as you can haul away! I got some for our Women’s Ministry Christmas party, and meant to go back to get some more to make a door hanging. I just haven’t made it back over there. They have always been really nice and just let me dig around to my heart’s content. Since they sell several kinds of trees, you can get different greenery for whatever you want to use it for.

Hi Traci! I love your use of poinsettias! Love your little vases and how you’ve set up your red vignette. I love red for Christmas too.
You must pop by and see what I did with the cute little gingerbread garland I won from you. I just love it.
    Merry Christmas, Dear One.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)
