The Top 10 Exterior White Paint Colors for Your Home
Hey friends! We are hoping we can paint the exterior of Four Gables in the next couple of weeks, weather permitting. If you know me, you know I’m gonna paint it white. I’ve loved white houses ever since I was a little girl, and so did my mom. ❤️

I remember when I first became a home owner and began choosing paint colors for my house, I was amazed to find out that white wasn’t just white. #whoknew🤷🏻♀️ There are actually many types of white…warm white, cool white, bright white, creamy white….and on and on! What?!
At first, I didn’t believe it, but over time (and many houses later,) I realized it’s absolutely true!
In today’s post, I’m sharing the top 10 exterior white paint colors that homeowners love. These are go-to shades for exteriors, and they work beautifully across a variety of styles. I am considering some of these for Four Gables, but I would love to hear about your favorite exterior white paint colors in the comments!
Here we go!
1. Sherwin Williams – Alabaster (SW 7008)

One of the most popular and highly recommended (by many of you) whites for exteriors is Sherwin Williams Alabaster. This shade is warm and soft, making it perfect for creating a welcoming, cozy look. It has just the right amount of warmth without looking yellow, which makes it super versatile for a range of architectural styles.
Here is Alabaster on Hester’s Homestead very own Four Gables house!..

Why it’s a favorite:
- Warm undertones make it feel soft and inviting.
- Works beautifully with both modern and traditional homes.
- Pairs well with darker trim colors for a high-contrast look.
2. Benjamin Moore – White Dove (OC-17)

White Dove by Benjamin Moore is one of my absolute favorites, especially for homes that need a crisp, but not stark, white. It has a soft, creamy undertone, which adds warmth and makes it stand out from the more cool-toned whites. We used White Dove on our Kentucky House. This house started out as a 1200 sq ft red brick ranched that we added on to over the 8 years we lived there. This is our kids’ favorite house. ❤️

Why it’s a favorite:
- Soft and creamy, but still bright enough to make a statement.
- Ideal for colonial-style homes, modern farmhouses, and cottages.
- Pairs beautifully with both warm and cool accent colors.
3. Sherwin Williams – Pure White (SW 7005)

If you’re looking for a true, clean white, Sherwin Williams Pure White might be your match. It’s bright without being overly stark, making it an excellent option for contemporary homes or those wanting a sharp, clean aesthetic. It has very minimal undertones, so it stays looking fresh and crisp in all types of lighting.

Why it’s a favorite:
- Clean and versatile—works well in both modern and traditional settings.
- Pairs perfectly with bold or neutral accent colors.
- Great for trim and exterior walls alike.
4. Benjamin Moore – Simply White (OC-117)

Simply White is a best-seller for a reason—it’s bright, cheerful, and incredibly versatile. With subtle warm undertones, it won’t feel too cold or sterile, which makes it a wonderful option for exterior use. It’s bright enough to stand out but still has a softness that keeps it from feeling too stark.

Why it’s a favorite:
- A versatile white that works with virtually any style of home.
- Has a soft warmth, so it doesn’t feel cold.
- Perfect for both the main body of the house and trim work.
Simply White is especially stunning on traditional homes and works beautifully with natural stone or wood accents.
5. Sherwin Williams – Greek Villa (SW 7551)

Greek Villa is another warm white that offers a soft, creamy appearance. It’s not too yellow but has just enough warmth to feel inviting. This shade is perfect for homes with a lot of character—think older homes with beautiful architectural details or new builds with a farmhouse or craftsman style.

Why it’s a favorite:
- Soft and creamy, but still bright.
- Adds warmth and charm to any home exterior.
- Looks amazing when paired with black or dark gray accents.
6. Benjamin Moore – Chantilly Lace (OC-65)

For those of you who love a crisp, modern white, Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore is one of the brightest whites available. It’s clean, sharp, and works especially well on contemporary homes or those that have sleek lines and modern design elements. But it also looks great on older homes as well! We used it on our Wilmore House in Kentucky. (I miss that house so much!!!😔)

Why it’s a favorite:
- Super crisp and bright—great for modern and contemporary homes.
- Pairs well with bold trim colors, like black or navy.
- Clean, cool undertones keep it feeling fresh and modern..
7. Farrow & Ball – Wimborne White (No. 239)

If you’re a fan of more classic, old-world whites, then Farrow & Ball Wimborne White might just steal your heart. It has a soft, slightly warm feel, with just enough brightness to make it a versatile choice for traditional homes. This white pairs beautifully with natural elements like stone, brick, or wood.

Why it’s a favorite:
- Slightly warm, perfect for traditional homes or cottages.
- Works well with natural textures like stone or wood accents.
- Soft and elegant, without being too yellow.
8. Sherwin Williams – Snowbound (SW 7004)

If you want a white that’s on the cooler side but still has a touch of warmth, Snowbound is a great option. It’s clean and bright, but with a hint of gray, which gives it a soft, modern feel. This shade works beautifully on contemporary homes or those with a lot of glass or metal elements.
We used Snowbound on our last home in Brentwood, Tennessee. I acutally found the color by knocking on the door of someone’s white house down the street that I loved! 😂

Why it’s a favorite:
- Clean and modern, with a hint of warmth.
- Works well with both cool and warm accent colors.
- Great for modern homes or those with contemporary design.
9. Benjamin Moore – Oxford White (CC-30)

Oxford White is a fresh, clean white with a cool undertone, making it perfect for modern and contemporary homes. It’s bright but has just enough coolness to keep it from feeling too harsh. This shade works wonderfully for exteriors that have darker, bolder trim colors or modern architectural details.
But you can see that it looks good on vintage style homes too!…

Why it’s a favorite:
- Cool, crisp, and modern.
- Perfect for homes with a lot of modern or industrial elements.
- Pairs well with dark grays, blacks, or wood tones.
10. Swiss Coffee – Behr

Swiss Coffee is a warm, creamy white that’s just perfect for exteriors. This soft, versatile shade has a welcoming warmth that makes any home feel cozy and inviting from the outside in. It’s bright without being stark, giving your exterior a classic, timeless look that pairs beautifully with natural materials like stone, brick, or warm wood accents.

Why it’s a favorite:
- Warm, inviting, and effortlessly classic.
- Perfect for creating a cozy, welcoming look on any style of home—from farmhouse to traditional.
- Pairs beautifully with deep greens, charcoal grays, or wood tones to add character and charm.
How to Choose the Perfect White for Your Home
If you are also on the lookout for an exterior white paint for your home, here are some more helpful tips:
- Consider Your Home’s Style: Different shades of white work better with different styles of homes. Crisp, bright whites like Chantilly Lace are perfect for modern or contemporary homes, while softer, warmer whites like Alabaster or White Dove are better suited for traditional or farmhouse-style homes.
- Look at the Undertones: Not all whites are the same! Some whites have warm undertones (yellow or beige), while others have cool undertones (blue or gray). Pay attention to the undertones of the white you’re considering and how they’ll pair with your home’s other features (like roofing, trim, or landscaping).
- Test Samples in Different Lighting: Exterior paint colors can look very different depending on the time of day and lighting conditions. Be sure to test out samples on different parts of your home and check how they look in the morning, afternoon, and evening light.
- Consider the Surrounding Elements: Think about how your white paint will look against your landscaping, driveway, and other exterior features. Whites with a bit of warmth tend to pair better with natural materials like stone or brick, while cooler whites work well with modern materials like metal or glass.
So those are some of the most popular white exterior paint colors out there! Now I need to narrow them down to my top 3 or so and get some samples to test out. EEK! I’m so excited!!
Again, ;et me know in the comments which white is your favorite. I love hearing from y’all!
Love and blessings,
Traci

Number 1 Alabaster
Number 3 Pure White
Number 10 Swiss Coffee
My 3 favorites I never realized so many white colors and how you can really tell the difference in them. Good luck
#1 Swiss Coffee!!! I love the warmth.
#2 Alabaster (very nice as well).
Good luck choosing!
Absolutely agree! #1 choice is Swiss Coffee and #2 choice is Alabaster!
Alabaster and Swiss coffee are my favs
1, 5, 10 are my top 3 favs. My favorite is 5 – Greek Villa because I can see the red brick from the photo example on your porch with this color. Gorgeous!
I’m like you, there is just something about a white house.
My top picks:
Alabaster
Snowbound
Chantilly Lace
I love a lot of them, #1 top pick for me is Greek Villa, then Swiss Coffee, Alabaster & Snowbound… I’ve used Chantilly Lace, Pure White and Snowbound in spaces and love them all for different reasons, but I think for your house and the pairing of your stained doors and accent colors, I’d pick Greek Villa, but you prob can’t go wrong with any of them. They’re all beautiful.
Alabaster! I used it on my cabinets and interior walls and I love it. Choosing paint colors is so difficult. Too many choices!
Love that color!
Wow! What a big decision. I would vote NO for:
1. Swiss Coffee
2. Oxford White
3. Wimborne White
4. Greek Villa
I am UNCERTAIN about:
1. Simply White
2. Pure White
I don’t think you can go wrong with one of the 3 colors you have already used: White Dove, Chantilly Lace, Snowbound. Is there one of those colors that you loved the most? I also think Alabaster could be a contender.
I think I like White dove and alabaster the best? Still deciding!
White Dove or Oxford White. I tend to stay away from the yellow tones for myself. To be honest….they are all a great choice!
I am a Chantilly lace girl!! It’s my go to inside my house.
Greek Villa
Swiss Coffee
I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these colors, but I’m partial to Benjamin Moore White dove because we have it on most of the interior walls of our home, and I’ve never gotten tired of it. I did make a note a few years ago to use Glidden Meeting House White the next time we paint our house exterior because a designer said that she used it every time she painted a house, and she said it never steered her wrong. Maybe that’s the ticket? Use what you’ve used before and loved. Although, Meeting House White looks like it may be similar to Swiss Coffee, which I like for my craftsman house, but you may be looking for a whiter white like White Dove, just my 2 cents. I know your home will be beautiful and can’t wait to see the finished result!
Greek Vanilla or Swiss Coffee are my favorites!
Really like the warmer whites:
*Alabaster
*Snowbound +
*Swiss Coffee
; )
I painted my house Chantilly Lace this summer and I love the crisp white. The flowers and green plants stand out so much more and they look so good next to it. All our neighbors have comment on it all the time.
