My New Office Door {Inspiration and Colors}

Today, I wanted to share with you some inspiration I have found for the door on my new office.

Now if you are new around here, you may not know that my office used to be a bedroom when we first moved in our home 6 years ago.  And then I gave it a real good makeover….

And now I am giving it another {more functional} makeover!

In my previous office, I didn’t have a door on the room at all because I wanted the kids and I to both use this space.

In this office, I definitely want a door on it, and I want it to have a DEAD BOLT!!!  With maybe a sign like this one…

I love my kiddos, but they destroyed my last office.  Literally.  And whenever I needed my stapler, or tape, or just about anything, I could never find it.

Soooooo, I told Cy, this time I WILL have a lock on my office door, and no one will be able to enter except for me!  Can anyone relate to my pain?  :)

Now, here is are some inspiration images I found on Pinterest…

I have actually been looking for a old door with glass on the top for almost a year.  I’ve searched craigslist, eBay, Habitat ReStore’s and more, but didn’t have any luck.   I needed it to be a specific size which made the search a little harder.

Last week, I actually checked on Facebook Marketplace, and I found an old door for sale about an hour and a half from where I lived.  It looked exactly like what I had been looking for, so I contacted the seller, and drove with Adam to get it.

I was so happy when I saw it in person, because it was EXACTLY what I was picturing in my mind.  I shared the trip on my Instagram stories, but I forgot to save it on my phone.

So I snapped this picture on my phone today to show you what the door currently looks like.  It was painted white when I bought it, but I painted it a light gray.  I love the color, but I’ve decided to paint it darker so it will show up better.  I will probably be painting it the same dark gray that I used in the guest bathroom, and the same color with which I painted our master bathroom dresser/vanity.

Then I am going to add a lock to the door like this Schlage keyless entry lock.

I will probably buy something to frost the glass with and then add lettering.

My favorite lettering is the vintage gold and black letters.  I would love to have my Beneath My Heart logo done in that vintage style lettering.

I’m currently trying to find a place online to order it. If you know of any good places, let me know!

I’ll be sure to share pictures when I get it all finished! :)

Have a blessed day!

xoxo

  1. If you’ll tell me where to send it, I’ll be happy to cut the lettering out for you. I just need the dimensions of the window (or, if you know what size you want the design, just tell me that.)

  2. You are soooo creative. Like I’ve asked you before. Can you just come over and redo my whole house please? I should add I live in Northwest Oregon. :) LOL Love your door and I can picture it finished. My daughter did something similar with the frosted class and lettering in her downstairs bathroom. She did the lettering with that new machine out. I forget the name of it, but its all the rage now. You can do so many things with it on glass, wood etc. Its all computerized and so she’s still learning what she can do with it. Darn, wish I could think of the name. You could design and do your own easily with your talent.

  3. So glad you found your door, and I can’t wait to see it finished. I can relate to your need to secure your work space. Been there, done that!

I think many of us are feeling the pain of Sunday’s shooting in that little church. For many years, my family and I attended a small Baptist church very similar in size to that one, so I can somewhat relate to how devastated those folks must be. Such a horrific, senseless loss.

  4. Love the door and excited to see it finished! Yes, I can so relate to not knowing where my stuff is – but it’s my husband who’s the trouble since we don’t have kids in the house now. I’ve actually hidden most of my things like stapler, tape, and so on, in a decorative box – he won’t ever look in.
We removed our laundry room door and replaced it with a full glass door (purchased new) because I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted, and frankly my husband isn’t as handy as yours :), so we bought the “whole door with molding, etc. I love it! It lets in the light at the end of our dark hallway, and hides the laundry.

  5. I love the door and am excited to see the finished product. Your door lock situation makes me laugh! We have an only child, and our house is pretty quiet. The fact that you have several kiddos seems so fun to me(:
