Paint, Plant, Celebrate: A DIY to Mark 100 Years of Purdy!

Hey sweet friends! 💛

As someone who loves watching things grow — whether it’s my garden 🌿, my family ❤️, or the home we’re building 🏠— this project is no different. I painted this window box using Purdy paint tools, and in doing so, got to honor 100 years of their craftsmanship. I couldn’t think of a better way to say “thank you” than to grow something beautiful inside it! 🌺

This quick little DIY took me no time at all! 👏🏻

While we are still waiting to finish building Four Gables, I thought this would be a fun project for the “front” house we are living in now on our property. I bought a window box on Amazon, and it was SO easy to put together and hang. Then I painted it the same color as our front door, SW Urbane Bronze.

Here is a full list of supplies you will need to do this project as well…

Supplies:

To kick off this project, I decided to have a little fun by painting “100” right across the front. It was a simple way to mark this moment — to celebrate Purdy – that’s grown strong over the years.

Why Purdy?

Purdy started way back in 1925, and for 100 years they’ve been making high-quality brushes and rollers — each one thoughtfully designed and handcrafted with care.

Purdy Paintbrush

If you have ever painted with a Purdy brush, you may have noticed the little yellow sticker on each one? It actually has the signature of the Purdy brushmaker that made it! How cool is that?!! You can see in the photo that Patsi made my brush. I love that attention to detail, don’t you?🥰

To paint the edges, grooves, and the parts of my window box against our siding, I used one of Purdy’s most versatile brushes, the XL Glide angled brush. It can be used with all paints and stains and is easy to clean.

My window box wasn’t very large, so I was able to use Purdy’s White Dove Jumbo Mini Roller in 3/8″ nap for smooth surfaces. It went on like a dream and left a perfectly smooth finish.

I painted two coats of paint on my window box, and when it was fully dry, I added some plants!

I’ve actually never had a window box on any of my previous homes, so it was fun to fill it! But I also wasn’t exactly sure which plants would be best to add, so we will see what happens! 🤪😂🙏🏼

Here are the flowers/plants I chose: Vinca (pink), Purslane (white), Coleus (green), Lantana (yellow), and Yellow Celosia. I love the way they look in my window box and can’t wait to watch them grow!

I made a reel for my Instagram to celebrate 100 Years of Purdy! Check it out….

You don’t have to take on a big renovation to create something meaningful. Sometimes a little window box, a bit of paint, and a good brush are all you need. I hope this inspires you to pick up a brush and add a little beauty to your corner of the world. 🥰 And if you’re looking for a brush to trust? Purdy’s been getting it right for 100 years.

I’m grateful for Purdy and the role their brushes have played in so many of my projects! So here’s to Purdy — and to all of us who love turning ordinary things into something beautiful.

Happy 100th, Purdy. ❤️

  2. I almost gasp when I read about Cys accident. I don’t have instagram so hadn’t heard. I had wondered if all was ok as you just stopped blogging. In 1998
my dad at age 63 fell off a ladder and instantly died. My younger brother was with him. My husband was the paramedic that responded. My mom wasn’t home. It rocked all our worlds. I was only 36 yrs. old and was raising 3 young kids that loved their Papa. My mom was never the same, even though she knew the Lord. She now is in memory care and no memory. All this to say is please don’t let Cy or any other family members on a ladder. It’s not worth it. By the grace of God I’m thankful Cy is ok and I will be praying for his shoulder. I’m so glad you have decided to sub out the rest of your house. I didn’t know how Cy could do all he was doing. Please share some time soon about your grandson. I’d love to see pictures too. Blessing to you and your family. I love your window box and the flowers you chose.
