Layered Door Mats for Spring!

Hello, friends!

We are having some warm weather in Kentucky this week, and I LOVE it!!

This warm weather makes me want to get outside and start sprucing up the exterior of our home.  And for me, that always starts on the front porch!

Our current home didn’t have a front porch the first 5 years we lived in it, so ever since we added on our new front porch, I have had fun decorating it though the seasons.

The two main things I focus on are something pretty to hang on my doors, and then cute door mats to welcome my guests.  For the past 4 years, I have been laying my door mats for some extra color and depth to our front porch.

Here are a few of my favorite….

When I first used a rug under my welcome mat, it was smaller like the one above, but as the years have gone on, I have like using bigger ones.  I usually use a 5×7 under a long welcome mat to cover the large space in front of my double doors.  If my porch was smaller and I only had one door, I would definitely us a smaller rug and mat.

I spent some time today finding some of my favorite rugs and mats to share with you.  Any of these combos would make for a beautiful Spring and Summer front porch!  And of course, you can mix and match any of these pieces.

Have you layered a rug under you door mat before?

  1. I do like layering the rugs, besides being pretty it also helps with all the stuff tracking in on shoes.
Love all these great rugs and combos you put together.

  2. I layered rugs for the first time at Christmas. I bought a cut cocoa mat that was shaped like the front of a red truck with Christmas tree. It was smaller than I thought so put a larger beige with black lattice type pattern under it. Loved it so left the rug and put a new mat over it for spring.

  3. I ordered the black “Hello” mat with a taupe striped rug from Wayfair. Can’t wait to layer on my front porch.

  4. I finally had the time to read your post. I have never layered rugs at our front door, but I like that idea a lot. It is very sandy here, like being at the beach, so I have a big rubber mat at the top of the stairs to help knock some of the sand off of our guests shoe bottoms. Then I like to have another mat at the door that will also help keep the sand outside. I hope y’all have a fabulous weekend!

  5. Hi! Where did you get your outdoor black lantern from? I’ve been looking for something similar but want something sturdy so that it doesn’t get blown away by the Chicago wind.
