New Fireplace in the Pond House

I have had a very busy last few weeks! A good amount of the busy came from me working on adding a new electric fireplace to our Pond House!

Quick Backstory:

The Pond House was originally suppose to be a one room fishing equipment shed that we built before we even moved out onto our property. I wrote a post about it HERE.

Once we built the “shed,” Jonathan decided he wanted to live in it. So we added a single door and some windows for light. You can read about those details in THIS POST.

We put a couch in the shed for Jonathan to sleep on, and he set up a little music studio in there too. I couldn’t find any pictures on my phone of when we decorated the space around the couch, but I did find the picture of when I bought it on facebook marketplace for $75…

I eventually painted the wall behind the couch the color “Railings” by and had it colormatched at Lowe’s.

We added a fridge in the little kitchenette on the other side of the room. I took the photo below when I did a sponsored post for Purdy about this kitchen island re-do.

Jonathan lived there for a few months before he moved into Nashville, and since then we have painted the exterior our favorite grey/black color, Ebony Fields by Valspar. We’ve used this color on our coop and my She Shed too!

I’ve also shared with you how we stained and sealed our front porch and added some landscaping. This little pond house has quickly become a favorite spot on our property. ❤️

Recently, I told Cy that I wish we had a fireplace in the Pond House. Eventually, we hope to put a buck stove in there, but we can’t do that right now. So in the meantime, I wanted to add an electric fireplace to cozy it up. (Which led to a whole series of events in a “If you give a mouse a cookie” style…)

Lowe’s had the perfect sized electric fireplace in stock, so I bought it and set it up.

I set it up in the only place available in the room, next to the kitchenette…

The plan was to put the tv above the fireplace, but I quickly realized that when I sat on the couch, I couldn’t really see the fire in the fireplace. The tv could be mounted on a swivel so we could view it from the couch, but I REALLY wanted to see the fire. It just didn’t feel cozy like I wanted. 😔

So I decided to see what it looked like if I put the fireplace on the wall the couch was on…

I definitely liked it better there, but it created a new problem…The full size couch was too big to be put in the middle of the room. Which meant if I kept the fireplace there, I would need to get a smaller couch.

Here is a screen shot of when Sania was watching a movie in the Pond House while I tried to decide what to do with the big couch. 🤪😂

I convinced Cy into moving the big couch up to Four Gables to maybe use in the future bonus room. Then I began scouring facebook marketplace for about two weeks looking for something like a loveseat to put in front of our new fireplace.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything I liked. There were a couple options I thought would work but they were too far away to risk it. So I went to the Habitat Restore in Nasvhille to take a look. They have a TON of furniture, and I was hoping I would find something there.

To my surprise, I found something that I loved! (But also scared me. 😂) It was this floral love seat…

Floral furniture is making a HUGE comeback, so I was kind of wanting to find something I could use in the pond house, I just wasn’t sure if it would work. However, I did feel like the black in the fabric would balance out the black Galanz fridge well. So for $75, I thought it was worth the risk to try it!

Man, am I glad I did! It was the perfect size for the new furniture layout in the Pond House.

I loved it so much that I knew I was going to keep it. So, Sania and I went the next day to our storage unit to get some furniture and decor that we use to have in our Wilmore House. We got a rug, a cream armchair, a lamp, a basket and pillows. We also grabbed our record player and albums.

The space began to feel so cozy, that we decided it needed a Christmas tree and decor!🎄😂

When we were finished, we were absolutely IN LOVE with our new cozy space!

I grabbed the scripture wall art right off the wall of the house we are living in now, and hung it up next to the fireplace to fill up that large empty space and balance out the height of the Christmas tree on the other side.

Y’all, I cannot tell you how much we LOVE this cozy little Pond House!! We take Honey for a walk every night, and the last stop on the walk is the pond house. We always go in and sit in front of the fireplace a while. It’s just the sweetest little spot.

It’s become our little happy place. I will sneak down there and watch a Christmas movie or listen to some Christmas music on the record player. It’s the little things that make me happy. 😍

The Christmas tree is from Walmart. It is a 7ft Pre-Lit Artificial tree and was only $85. I liked it because it was slimmer than the others, which made it perfect for this space. You can find it HERE.

I found the cute little tv Christmas art on Youtube HERE.

Here is a reel I made of the pond house that I thought you may enjoy too! It’s always fun to see video of a space as well.

So what do you think? Isn’t it cute? We are just so happy with how it all turned out.

And guess what?! Rearranging this part of the pond house has caused me to paint the kitchenette cabinets! I painted them the prettiest color, and I can’t wait to share them with you soon!!

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving week!

Love and Blessings, Traci

  1. Happy Thanksgiving!
I love your decor ideas. They always inspire me! I’m spending Thanksgiving with my kiddos and grandbabies. Always missing my hubby though who unexpectedly passed from a freak accident. Praying for comfort and strength especially during the holidays.
Thanks for sharing your home with us.

  2. It looks perfect! You have a wonderful gift of putting rooms together at a reasonable cost! Great job! Happy Thanksgiving !
    God bless!

  3. I can totally relate to the Give-a-Mouse-a-Cookie incidents. Cy has, no doubt, learned to see the storm coming just as my husband has. Mine has the patience of job when it comes to home projects, but he does start to sweat when I say, “Picture this…!”

  4. I absolutely love the Pond House!! It is so so cozy and I can see why you stop there all the time after your walk! You did a great job decorating it. Have a blessed Thanksgiving! We travel to family in Dallas from Houston. It is always a great time!
